Romans 3:9-20 “A Biblical Anthropology”
Theme: If we have confidence in our own spiritual abilities, even a little, we won’t concern ourselves with the state of our spiritual life.

I. All Mankind is Under Sin (Romans 3:9)
  • What does it mean to be under sin?

II. Man Under Sin (Romans 3:10-18)
  • What Psalm do these verses reflect? 
A. God Describes Man’s Will Without Regeneration (vv10-12)
1. No one is righteous (v10)
2. No one understands (v11a)
3. No one seeks God (v11b)
4. No one goes the way of God (v12a)
5. No one is worth anything (v12b)
6. No one does good (v12c)
  • What does “no one does good” mean concerning man’s free will?

B. God Describes Man’s Inclinations Under Sin (vv13-18)
7. Their throats are open graves (v13a)–Ps 5:9
8. Their tongues lie (v13b)
9. Their lips hold poison (v13c)—Ps 140:3
10. Their mouths curse (v14)—Ps 10:7
11. Their feet run to shed blood (v15)—Isa 59:7-8
a. Their paths have always led to destruction (v16)—Isa 59:7
b. They never seek peace (v17)—Isa 59:8
12. Their eyes never look in fear (reverence) toward God (v18)—Ps 36:1
