Scripture Passage: Ephesians 6:1-4; 2 Kings 20 (esp. vv.12-19; Isa 38-39)

Exposition/Outline:
- εὐαγγέλιον (Romans 1:16, gospel or “good news”) similar to promise in 6:2 ἐπαγγελίᾳ “upon news”
- Honor your father and mother (that’s the commandment)
- ἐπαγγελίᾳ is attached to the commandment; not εὐαγγέλιον “good news,” but “upon news.”
- The “upon news” is that if you obey, “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”
- Question that arises from the commandment and flows from vv1-4, specifically that fathers would feed their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, is: what will come upon the next generation?
- 2 angles of responsibility for Kingdom Vision: 1) Fathers should obey the command of God to provoke their children in the Way generationally 2) children should actually honor their fathers instruction and discipline by holding onto the promise, what has come upon them, the “upon news,” thus well-being & long life
